| East Timor | Hospital in East Timor Posted: Thu May 25, 2006 04:43 PM UTC
Hi!
My friend and I are both nursingstudents from Norway. We speak portugese and love travelling. In January 2007 we are planing to spend one month on an exchange-program in East Timor. We want to stay outside Dili somewhere else in a small village. We have to fix the exchange-program ourselves. To manage this we need a phonenumber or a mail address to a hospital in East Timor so that we can get in touch with someone at a hospital. Do you know if there is a internetpage with a list over hospitals in East Timor? Or do you know any phonenumbers/e-mail-adresses to some hospital? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out. Kind regards Therese. |

I'd forget about East Timor for the moment. East Timor would appear to be on the verge of chaos. Australia already has about 300 troops on duty, with another 1000 on the way. Plans are prepared for emergency evacuation for civilians. Keep abreast of events, but I don't think there will be any good news any time soon.

I'm going to East Timor next month (July. Things in East Timor are now more calm, and my impressions are that in January should be OK. You could contact me through this site, to my email and after beeing there I could send you some more info.
P.S. I think it's better for you if you stay in Dili.

Hi Therese, It's wonderful that you thought of East Timor. My feel is that a small village may not give you the exposure that you are looking for - reason being that there are hardly any medical facilities or establishment in the village. The other option that you may want to consider is to be stationed in a hospital in one of the 13 districts. I am rather familiar with Maliana which is the town of Bobonaro district. Hence, I will suggest the option to work in Maliana hospital. You can call Dr Victorino, the Head of HR/Clinic to discuss your intention. Mobile phone: +670-7253760. And if you need to contact Dili Hospital, he should able to help. I am not sure whether he has email, but do note that call charges are expensive. I wish you success.
