I went to Coca Canyon last december. It was not worh it because it was dry. You should go after rainyseason which is between january and march (that's the rainy season). I never saw a condor either. It was frustrating. Anyway, if u decide to go, u should contact the travel agency NUEVO MUNDO, it's the best. We were supposed to be in a shared tour but the forgot about us, and 1 hour later they sent a private bus only for me and my boyfriend with our private tour guide.
Hope u have agreat trip

Hola
the tour to the colca canyon is really nice, I saw many condors flying very close by.
The landscape is really beautiful and the pre inca terraces are worth to see, it is only a trip of 5 hours from Arequipa but after it , the tour will bring you to the hotsprings, really warm!.
I think the differences in prices with the tours are the kind of buses, the guides and the hostel where you stay in Chivay. The cheapest tours, have some problems on the way because the busses are too old, and the guides donīt speak english very well. I heard from other travellers,
any way, if you have some questions just let me know.

Hello, travelgirl =)
My name is Roberto , and I'm from Arequipa, well, here in Arequipa there are many tour agencies, and if you need only a tour guide you can find a tour guide just for visit Colca Canyon, so you can find one in the same place.
Now if you don't want to spend too much money you can travel yourself...but only you have to care when you are here, only you take taxi from Enterprises ..for example TAXITEL, TURISMO AREQUIPA... and the food you can find a lunch since $1 a vegetarian lunch or normal lunch... until $5 or more ..this depends the place where you want to have lunch, breakfast, etc.
Here in Arequipa city you can get a hotel since $8 hotel 2 stars (with hot water and a bathroom in the same room where you sleep, but if you want other kinds of hotel there are hotels with 4 or 5 stars ...but there are more expensive.
The travel Arequipa to Colca Canyon delays 4 hours...by buss, the ticket costs $4 to $5.
if you want to go with a tour guide in a group of tourists it costs you around $30 2 days and 1 night it includes your breakfast and a room in the hotel, and lunch and go to colca canyon and other tourist place, but now I don't know How can I say it in english =P ...?I study english but stil my english is basic.

Have a nice day =) and if you have more doubts about Arequipa ...I can help you giving more information about Arequipa.

Best Wishes.

Robert
