Saint John's Budget Accom in Antigua Mar/Apr 2007
Posted: Tue May 23, 2006 06:03 AM UTC
I am looking on behalf of my son who is going to Antigua for the world cup cricket. Any suggestion for places to stay and where abouts on the island is the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. He will be there for from approx 24/26 Mar 2007 until 9th April 2007, he will have a few days for sight seeing in between matches so any suggestions.

There are plenty of places to choose from although a lot of them might already be booked up. It all depends on what type of accommodation your son is looking for. There is a listing of various accommodations from here:
http://www.stay-in-antigua.com/accommodation.php

There is a map here showing the location of the stadium (and the accommodations):
http://www.stay-in-antigua.com/accommodation_map.php

General places to do a little sight seeing are:
Betty Hope – A restored sugar mill
Devils Bridge – Naturally formed rock bridge
Nelsons Dockyard – A heritage sight including a museum
Shirley Heights – Bar, restaurant and a Sunday night BBQ with music
St Johns – Capital of Antigua
And of course there are many beaches to visit!

Thank you for the information, the map is great. I have check out a few of the accom places but no luck so far. What do the authorities feel about peolpe sleeping on the beach, because it looks like he may just have to do that.

I am not 100% sure about sleeping on the beach, but I don’t think the authorities would like that, plus you might well get quite a few bites from sand flies in the late evenings. There are other places to stay other than the ones listed on the Stay-in-Antigua website, but you might have to do a bit of searching (try www.antiguanice.com or www.antiguahotels.org).

Thanks for information, you seem to know a lot about Antigua, do you live there?. What would we do with out the internet? I will continue trying to find some budget places for my son to stay. Do you know of any guset houses?, there are a few in Barbados, that is where is going after Antigua.

No I don’t live in Antigua (although I would like to). I’ve been there on holiday about 7 or 8 times and really love the island, so if I can help out anyone who wants to go there I will. I can’t think of any guest houses at the moment, but if I find any more I’ll post them here. You could also try the forums on TripAdvisor (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g150894-i224-Antigua_and_Barbuda.html) as they tend to have a lot more people posting questions and answers.

Yes who wouldn't want to live there sounds like a great place. Not the best for accommodation when the cricket world cup is on though. I have tried heaps of places with out any luck, I will try the travel advisor. Thanks again you have been a great help. If you find any thing my email address is julie7878@dodo.com.au I think if it got posted here it may be gone before I have a chance to check it out my self. Is that a bit rude? Oh dear hope not. Thanks again

We have just had our tickets to the game in Antigua on 27th March confirmed so I immediately tried to find reasonably priced accommodation in Antigua - impossible. I was unwilling to book before we were assured of tickets but it has been very difficult to find anything available. We managed to find a room at Cocos Hotel but it was very expensive - $US200 each per night. Good luck!
