Thanks for the info on Gold Canyon AZ. We will be coming to Chandler but hubby will be busy all day. How far from Phoenix is Chandler? Is there anything around Chandler to occupy my time? How about shopping, museums, etc? How terribly hot is the area in October? Thanks for the info!

Chandler is about 15 miles southeast of Downtown Phoenix. Driving time depends on where in Chandler you're going.
There's quite a bit of shopping in Chandler, specifically the Chandler Fashion Center (101@Chandler Blvd) and some stuff near the I-10 freeway. They've also recently built quite a bit near Arizona Avenue (AZ 87) and the 202 on the south side of town. No museums, but there is one in Mesa, as well as the Mormon temple. The only tourist attraction that I know of in Chandler is a dairy, though that may not be interesting to you. Arizona begins to cool in October. Highs should be in the low- to mid-90's with nightly lows in the 60's. 100 is still possible at that time of year though.
