| Almuñécar | Airport to Almunecar Posted: Fri May 19, 2006 05:11 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Almunecar in October. I know it is a similar distance from both Malaga and Granada airports, but I'm wondering which would be the easiest to get from. I am a 50+ single lady traveller, and will have a medium sized wheeled case. I have the bus timetables from Granada and Malaga, but as I said I'd like to know which you people think is actually the easiest and most practical way to do this. If I come Ryanair to Granada, the flight lands 21.30 -hopefully, so I know that would be too late for the last bus and I would have to stay overnight in Granada, which wouldn't be a problem. I'd love to know what you think. Thanks.

I personally would fly into Malaga then just come directly along the coast to Almuñecar. If you go to Granada it means bus or taxi into Granada then quite a drive down to the coast either by bus or taxi. Have you thought about hiring a car, much cheaper, suit yourself when and how and its not difficult driving being motorway right thru. Im 50+++ and do it all the time.

Why not fly into one and out the other ? That way you can see for yourself AND most importantly see GRANADA ?
But I agree that Malaga airport option seems to be the easiest - and the bus journey along the coast from Malaga main bus station is not too long.

The bus service is good (and cheap) from either Malaga or Granada. And Granada and Malaga's airports are some distance from the city, so some additional travelling would be required to reach each bus station. Both cities deserve a visit, so if your chosen flight is arriving late, I would recommend you stay overnight. While the bus journey from malaga is shorter, from what I remember it took about the same time because of several stops along the coast. The Granada bus to Almunecar was direct, through the Andalucian countryside and winding though the mountains.

Hello,
Having done both trips from Granada and Malaga, I would opt for Granada. Malaga airport is so large now and they are building a 2nd terminal. Ther is alot of walking just to get out of the airport and it is hellishly busy. The last bus from Malaga runs from Malaga central bus staion at 6.30 pm. You can get a bus from Granada central bus station up until 8.30 pm. Here is a link to the bus timetable from Granada : http://www.almunecar.com/Visitors_Guide/Making_Pla The buses are cheap, clean and air conditioned and the ride to Almunecar from Granada central bus station is scenic. After hours, if you can afford it and are keen to get to Almunecar the same day, I can highly recommend Jose who has a high quality can company. His cars are clean, air conditioned and he is a charming and safe driver who helps with your bags and has that lovely tradionally courtious Andalucian manner. You may need to get a cab back if you are like us and get so laid back during your stay, you can't think about buses!) Jose speaks a enough English and is totally reliable, meeting you from wherever with a smile - Highly recommended. Jose Manuel Cabra Ruiz Tel : 608 459834 or 952 523039 The airport bus will take you to the center of Granada. We have previously stopped off an a cahrming little hotel in the village of Niguelas jsut outside Granada. Reasonably priced. A local bus will get you there and I'm sure the owners will come and meet you from it or you can get a cab from Granada. http://www.loslentos.com/ Highly recommeded fro a stopover on the way to the coast. Spotlessly clean rooms, amazing views and an in house restaurant that uses organic produce from their garden. HAve a gret time!

Is it worth hiring a car? We have been quoted £130 for taxi transfers and a car would cost £145. Would we use the car much or is it easy to travel on public transport?
