| Rarotonga | Island tour guide Posted: Fri May 19, 2006 07:29 AM UTC
A forum posting, Jan.,'05, gave this advice:" When you're in Raro, take the tour with "Piri" . He's a legend and the traditional umu that he and his family cook is the REAL DEAL." So, HOW do I find Piri?

You are probably looking for Piri Puruto at Vaimaanga on Rarotonga.
His phone number is: 20309. His cell phone number is: 55785. Piri is also known as the Coconut King of Rarotonga.

| Rarotonga | Your Island tour guide advice Posted: Sun June 25, 2006 09:20 PM UTC
Thank you for answering my question (in May) about how to find Rarotongan tour guide Piri. I have filed the information in my "Pacific Islands" folder (computer).
My daughter and I had a restful week in Raro, early June. We saw a big sign for Piri's "umu" (barbeque?), but since my daughter is a vegetarian we did not go. (Later I realized there would have been grilled fish, in addition to meat.) We did take the Raro Safari Tours jeep trip to the mountain tops, and also hiked with aging "nature boy" Pa--a very pleasant and knowledgeable man. an amazing person. If you go back to Raro and have not hiked or walked with Pa you might try that. His reports of his life sounded like tall tales to me--champion swimmer, three-time lottery winner, real estate buyer, famous for his native cures, and so on. Turned out to be all true! Happy travels, Beverley
