Whitsunday Islands Hamilton Island at Christmas
Posted: Wed May 17, 2006 11:30 AM UTC
Has anyone stayed on Hamilton Island over the Christmas period? If so, was it a good resort at that time of year? Are all the facilities open over the Christmas holidays? What was the weather like e.g. hot and humid?

Any information would be great!

Hamilton Island is very hot and humid over Xmas and you can expect some storms as well because it is the wet season however these usually only last a short time and then the sun is out again. Hamilton is pretty busy most of the time but especially so over Xmas and New Year and everything will be open. As for it being a good resort? Well it really depends what your looking for. It has bars and pools and shops and you can take day trips to other islands and to Whitehaven Beach etc. If your looking for excitement then Airlie Beach has a lot more things to do and it is very young person friendly. Let me know what interests you and I can give you further information.

Thanks Couplesynergy, for your reply. My friend and I are not the backpackers young resort type (we are in our early thirties). We've heard that Hamilton Island attracts a broad section of people - from families to singles of all ages.

What boat trips would you recommend from Hamilton Island? I also hear that around Christmas time you can't go into the sea due to the large amount of stingers! What other recommendations would you have re: activities on and around the island?

Thanks in advance, for your kind assistance.

You are right that October through to about March is the stinger season but you can still go swimming. Rent yourself a stinger suit which will give you protection from the stingers as well as from the sun. I think last season there were two stings reported so out of thousands of people swimming thats not to bad. We are about to put a boat up there that people can use for skipper yourself bareboat cruises from 3 nights to 10 nights. You could also get a skipper to take you out for 3 nights on the boat. That way you can visit all of the islands which is by far the best option. You can explore Hamilton in a pretty short time but with a boat you can do so much more. Go snorkelling at Blue Pearl Bay on Hayman Island or Manta Ray Bay where there are thousands of fish, go to Daydream Island and watch a movie under the stars, go to happy hour at Club Med Lindeman Island, swim and then laze on the beautiful sands at Whitehaven Beach voted one of the top ten in the world and so much more. We are currently working on a website that would give you more information but if you want more info in the meantime just email me.

Regards

Geoff
