Masai Mara Game Reserve Safari Company Recommendation
Posted: Wed May 17, 2006 06:49 AM UTC
Hi,
My wife and I will be in Kenya this July. We would like to go on a low cost 3 day camping safari in the Masai Mara. In addition to game viewing we would love visit a Masai village. Can anyone recommend a safari company for us?

Thanks,
Rob

Try www.malobaskenya.com. The service is very good and personalised. I had a great trip to the Maasai Mara with a very experienced guide.

Look out for hidden costs while choosing a safari company.Such as they should carry water for you, game park entraces should be paid by them etc.Make sure the vehicles are new.
All safaris invariably take you to a masai village. Each one patronizes a particular village. However,it may be a little disappointing to have the masaais thursting their wares onto you to sell..too commercialized!!

My husband and I traveled to the Masai Mara this past February with Micato. They are not inexpensive, but we felt secure that every $ was well spent. The village visit was wonderful and our guide explained that we should feel no pressure to purchase anything, as the village had recieved compensation for our visit - therefore we really enjoyed our interchange with the village ladies and admired and purchased only what we really wanted. Also, Micato has a fabulous program with America Shares that will make you even more glad that you were able to come to Kenya. Best of luck and Jambo

Ooops, that's "America Share", not America Shares - quite a different thing!

There are thousands of companies to use but I would advise you use a reputable registered firm. I did use Leading Expeditions and had very organized professionally run safari.

Word of caution though: Avoid COME TO AFRICA safaris. They messed me up, processed my credit card Us 4200, promised what they could not offer and their staff very rude.
