Ancona Travel Forum

12 adults are traveling to Le Marche to visit family in June. We have decided to stay at Hotel Emilia in Portonova, because we have family in Ancona and Porto Civitanova...and we love the Adriatic Sea and water sports that are nearby.

We are being driven by private bus, from Rome. Once we arrive, how do we get around? What's the largest vehicle we can rent? Or, is there a bus/taxi service that we can call to take us where we need to go? For instance, if we all want to leave the hotel and go shopping in Ancona, what's the best way to do that? And if we all want to visit family in Porto Civitanova for a few hours, or go to a restaraunt.....do we call 3 taxis or one bus? Or should we rent 3 cars? There are so many of us that a tour guide would be nice, but we will be with our family alot, so we don't need a tour guide all the time. Any suggestions?

Hi, hotel Emilia is a great choice for the view and the services it offers, but it is in bad position if you want to move around.There are probably bus connection betwen portonovo(where hotel emilia is) and ancona but for sure none to civitanova that is about 45 kilometers south of ancona.If you want to go to civitanova you should take a bus or taxi to ancona train station and then a train to civitanova(it will be 40 minuts trip).You can hire taxis from hotel to Civitanova but count to pay at least 50 euros each taxi.

We will arrive in Portonova on Friday June 30 and leave Sunday July 2. So, we only need transportation Friday afternoon and evening, and Sat. I don't know how much transportation we need. We can take the bus from Hotel Emilia down to the beach. It's for the trips out to dinner and shopping and to our famiy's houses that I don't know what to do.

Civitanova is a great place for shopping so, if also your family is there, I would avoid going to Ancona and concentrate on Civitanova, for the dinner, hotewl emilia restaurant is not that good anymore but nearby you will find places to eat fish, clandestino is a good one for sushi.
