| Graz | Train to and from Graz Posted: Mon May 15, 2006 02:01 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm trying to book a return train trip from Vienna to Graz on the oebb website. I thought I'd go first class (what the hell, I'm on holiday) but it states that on my return there is no first class but I will travelling in a Grossraumwagen, which I understand is like a trailer tram. I don't mind travelling in a tram, I just don't want to pay a 1st class price for one! I'm confused. Is an IC train smaller than an OEC train? I would be very grateful for any help on this matter, Many thanks Tony |

"Grossraumwagen" meens a open salon car in opposition to a compartement car.

The IC stands for Intercity and isn't smaller, it's faster as it stops at less stations. Generally it's slightly more expensive.
I wouldn't worry about going 1st class, the trains are very spacious and comfortable. There is usually no problem with getting a seat, the only times it's really busy is when students are going home for the weekend or are coming back from their weekend at home. If you travel Friday night or Monday morning it might be advisable to pay a bit extra and book a seat (Sitzplatzwahl = choose a seat) in advance.
