time-table - trains to Petrozavodsk
Posted: Mon May 15, 2006 11:23 AM UTC
Hello, does anybody know a well-arranged (at least to some extent) and mainly up-to-date online time-table of trains leaving from St. Peterburg's main station to Petrozavodsk? No problem with Cyrillic alphabet.
Or maybe, does any of the locals know when the trains go, how much the ticket is and how long the journey takes to get to Petrozavodsk?
Thank you so much!

Hi Lehmus,
Check www.expresstorussia.com, they should have most trains, and it's available in both English and Russian. Other places to check are www.gotorussia.com (go to train reservations) and www.academservice.com.

hello and thank you for your help, this is what I found:

www.expresstorussia.com - seems quite expensive - 84USD for 2nd class... or how does the third class look like?? I will probably travel through night.. Is it safe?

www.gotorussia.com - seems these trains are going only to/from moscow?

www.academservice.com - only accommodation directory?

Simply, I need to get to Petrozavodsk from St Peterburg on Saturday, departing preferably in the late afternoon, so that I arrive in Petrozavodsk in the morning.. Someone told me the ticket was something like 500-1000 RUR..
Any hints are welcome! Thank you!

If you are staying in a hotel in St.Pete, they should be able to provide some assistance for you booking tickets. If your schedule is flexible, I would just go to the train station in St.Pete and buy tickets there, it would be your cheapest option. If, instead of going to the train station (or official ticket office at Gostiny Dvor)you choose to go to a travel agency, there might be additional surcharges. When I inquired at a Moscow travel agency about tickets to St.Pete, as soon as they saw our foreign passport, the price went up. And night time travel is as safe as daytime travel. As far as Academservice goes, you need to email them to get their offer. I didn't like their prices, though. You need to email www.gotorussia.com to get their quote or ask them for their St.Pete office phone number. Their prices are better than at Academservice, but probably not much better that at Expresstorussia.com. All in all, your best bet is to go to a ticket office in person and get it there, all depends on how much time you have on your hands. Best wishes.
