| Vatican City | Papal audience Posted: Mon May 15, 2006 09:00 AM UTC
Hi there, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I have written a letter and sent it by post as I'm hoping to get 2 of the free tickets to see the Pope when I am in Rome next week. However I'm not sure if I will recieve a reply, or do I have to collect the tickets or just turn up? How do you know if you have been allocated a place? Many thanks

Hi
If you do not get the tickets just turn up at St Peter's Square at approx 10am and be there with everyone else. We saw him last October. You are welcome to view my Vatican City pages, you will get a good idea of what is going on. Good Luck, Mikebb

I was in Rome a few times and I remember you can get the tickets the day before but best two days before, otherwise it may not happen. I believe it takes place on Wednesdays.
Cheers, jz

We attended a papal audience about 15 years ago. We got our tickets the day before but I don't remember where we had to get them - somewhere in Rome, though. We were at St. Peter's Square at 8 a.m. (for the 10.a.m. audience) and were in the 4th row. By the time they let us in, we had been pushed, shoved, elbowed, stomped on back to about the 10th row - mostly by Italian nuns!!!!! DO NOT LET ANYONE IN FRONT OF YOU! When the gates open, RUN as fast as you can for the entrance and try to get a row with no-one in it, that way you'll be at the centre aisle where the Pope will walk down. If anyone asks you to let them take a picture from your aisle seat, DO NOT let them for they will not give you back your spot! Not very Christian, I know, but that was the only way then and all 4 of got to shake Pope John Paul's hand. I hope the procedure is more civilized now than then.
