| Ipoh | Getting to Ipoh from Taman Negara Posted: Mon May 15, 2006 03:12 AM UTC
I will be going to Taman Negara and from there, would like to go to Ipoh. From Ipoh, back to Singapore.
Q. What's the quickest way to get to Ipoh from Taman Negara? I am considering going to KL after Taman Negara and taking a flight to Ipoh from KL as I'm not sure as to the safety of travelling alone (female that I am) by bus in unfamiliar territory. I don't speak Bahasa Melayu and there might be customs that I'm not aware of (like proper clothing, etc.) I will be leaving in a few days and hope someone out there has plied this route before and give share his/her travel wisdom. Thanks in advance. |

hi (no name)!!!
there is no direct coach service from taman negara to ipoh... you will have to go from taman negara to klumpur and then from klumpur to ipoh... there is only one daily flight by malaysian airlines (for myr250 return) and is not worth the effort... it would be better to take a coach from klumpur... try the nice coach from the old klumpur railway station... there are many departures a day.. it is comfortable and safe and you don't need to know bahasa melayu to take the coach... hehe... regards.chia

Malaysia is very safe, woman or not, if you respect local customs, you won't get into trouble. Proper clothing - use common sense. People, however are very friendly there. And many speak English, too. It's one of the easiest places to travel in South East Asia.

Hi, Chia and Picek,
Thanks for the reassuring tips and quick reply... But I won't be going to Ipoh after all... I was supposed to meet my friend there but as it turns out, we have a conflict in travel plans... my friend is going to Pulau Pangkor... sigh... I saw a website about it and it looks so pangkor (meaning 'beautiful', right?...) But it's much too far away for the time that I have... Anyway, maybe some other time, I will get a chance to go to Ipoh and Pulau Pangkor... and I still have Taman Negara to explore... 'will post pics when I get back... Thanks
