| Amalfi | Dilemma!Amalfi vs positano Posted: Fri May 12, 2006 07:51 PM UTC
Hi,
i am planning a honeymoon trip in the region and plan to cmbine it withmy stay in capri. After reading so many reviews am pretty confused as to base myself in positano or amalfi. also how many nights should be ok in capri?(2 or 3) i am looking forward for an experience of romance and fun. Advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated. |

Since nobody else has answered you, I'll try. This difficult question comes up often and most responders have their preferences. Mine is Positano. Positano is a spectacular beautiful village devoted in large part to tourism. Amalfi is a much larger town with plenty of tourism but other activities including an interesting cathedral as well. In my mind, Positano is far more "romantic'. Check varied pages on VT - there are real differences. In either case, visiting Ravello (or even staying there) should be a part of your plans - many pages inluding mine. As for Capri, I suppose one could spend several days there for a complete visit, but realistically speaking most important visits can be accomplished with a 2 night stay. The smaller Anacapri should be a part of your visit. Our best meals were - Ravello, Cumpa Cosimo. Capri, Casanova's. Have you selected hotels?

We're planning our first Italy trip too. We are flying into Rome, staying 3 days, going to Naples and staying 2 nights. We'll take the hyrdafoil to Capri and stay 4 nights, and then back over to Sorrento and rent a car and drive to Positano and stay 5 nights there, and our last night back in Rome. I plan to take alot of nice fotos, and I'll post them on my VT member's page. I'll let you know how Capri & Positano are!

The Amalfi coast is going to take your breath away. The closest we have come to Naples is the autostrada driving past. A lot of people end up there either by cruise ship, train from Rome, and airplane and there are some attractions I guess also in Naples - but when I hear honeymoon, fun, romance, Naples is one of the least likely places in the region. We just did Capri by daytrip by the way and stayed the whole time in Positano, but a friends spent one (two?) nights in Capri and also had a great time there. Enjoy your trip - give us some followup. >~!

I just returned from the Amalfi coast and fell in love with Positano. It is a quaint hillside town that you can walk in one day. We took a personal speed boat to Capri and were disappointed. It was busy, filled with tourist and very high end stores. Amalfi was a short visit but not nearly as beautiful as Positano. Whatever you do the Amalfi coast is beautiful. Ciao

Positano has a beach and you can stay in the town itself more easily. In Amalfi, we stayed a 5 minute drive outside of town. and no beach.
Both are lovely.

Hello - We're leaving this Friday for two weeks on the Amalfi coast. We're staying in the town of Praiano between Amalfi and Positano. It is picturesque, gets great reviews and isn't swollen with tourists. Yet, all the locations you'll want to visit are easily accessible, including Capri. I recommend you read an article by Nicole Cotroneo entitled, "Hey,Neighbor", published in the Washington Post Sunday, April 15, 2007. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007
