Pompeii Travel Forum

Me and my boyfriend are staying in Venice for a week or so in the summer, but we both really want to see Mount Vesuvias and Pompeii (and Naples if possible). Does anybody know a good (v. cheap!! we are students!) place to stay around there from which it would be possible to spend a day seeing the area? I have no idea exactly what it's like or how far away things are from each other. What is transport like? If i were to stay in Naples could we get a bus easily to Vesuvias etc? How long would it take? I went to Rome and Florence last year so Pompeii is a left over trip from then, but it is a must see!! If we could find a place to stay in Naples, presumably we would have to get the train down to there and then fly back to the Uk from Rome..but we're pushed for money so want to do it the easiest, cheapest way. Please help! I will be buying a tourist guide, but we need to book soon! Thanks a lot
