| Buffalo | Considering move to Buffalo Posted: Wed May 10, 2006 03:00 PM UTC
Hi, I am considering a move to the Buffalo area, but I have heard that the city is run-down, dirty, and poor. Is this true? Also, I heard that the weather really sucks. Thanks.

Whilst there ARE run-down areas, and poor areas, and poor people. There is also a great atmosphere, really friendly people (even the street guys) and some stunning architecture. Buffalo is currently revitalising itself with major banking corporations establishing their bases and has some world-leading medical research facilities. The food is great and diverse, bars are open until late and most of all the people are the friendliest.
I only had a couple of days there but I thoroughly enjoyed. Winters can be cold and miserable but when the sun shines, it does. My page isn't complete yet but is worth a look to see an outsider's view.

Hello,
I currently live in the city of Buffalo, and would have to say that the city is currently in the midst of an upswing. The "run-down, dirty, and poor" part probably stems from the fact that Buffalo has lost much of it's population since the Bethlehem Steel days and is currently trying to find ways to recover from this loss. However, there has been a surge of new downtown projects, housing, and more. As for the weather, yes our winters do get pretty cold and snowy, but that is only one season. We also have beautiful summers where us Buffalonians enjoy free outdoor concerts, restaurant patios, and Lake Erie sunsets. And anyway, our winters give us an excuse to ski, snowmobile, iceskate (we even have free iceskating downtown), eat chicken wings, and watch the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres (currently doing great in the NHL playoffs). Also, speaking of the NHL, we have Canada so close by that we can enjoy Niagara Falls and Toronto whenever we want! One good website you may want to check out is www.buffalorising.com
