West Sumatra Province Travel Forum

Hi all,

I'll be visiting Padang this early September effectively for 3 days and not sure wheather to base/stay in Padang and explore the area from there or to stay in Bukit Tinggi.

Appreciate any suggestions and also for places to visit there.

FYI:
Padang is capital city of West Sumatera Province , though BUkittinggi is center of university of Minagkabau area/people, and close to another area/place in west sumatera , i suggest u to stay in padang, coz it's near from the airport.if u 'd like to stay in bukittinggi u should go directly to bukittinggi after landed by bus/car .It's only 2-3 hrs drive from Padang.

the local interest:
1. national museum- Padang
2. Bung hatta Botanical garden
3. Jam Gadang [Indonesia's big ben :D] - bukittinggi
4. Fort de Cock in bukittinggi
5. ngarai sianok (sianok canyon),
6. Anai valley - waterfall {on the side of the road to bukittinggi)
7. u also can go to another place in west sumatera such as:
a. solok = about >70 km from bukittinggi / padang
b. payakumbuh = harau valley , about 40 km from bukittinggi
c. lake singkarak and maninjau = ,40 km from bukittinggi

Recomended hotel :
padang :inna muara , paradiso ,bumi minang
bukittinggi : novotel bukittinggi

souvenir : the famous "kain songket"
food : keripik pedas , keripik sinjai
restaurants : (Padang cuisine) in Rest. Tanpa Nama in Padang
chan's - chinnese food
