I will be in Kumamoto for 5 days and maybe base myself in Fukuoka for two days. Hence, just wondering whether Fukuoka is a good base for travels out to Beppu, Nagasaki, etc? As I am on a budget, any travel plan/card/pass would you recommend and which are the must go places in the Kyushu region?
I am a bit last minute and I am leaving soon. Thanks so much. Awaiting some responses, Bee :))))) |

Fukuoka is a good place as a base for your travel.
And both Beppu and Nagasaki are excellent destinations, and also there excellent places around both destinations. I can not say which place is best, it depends on what you want to do. If you have a specific theme, I can make further recommendations. Masa

Thanks for the reply. I am looking into onsen hopping and perhaps some sight seeing. You mean day trips from Fukuoka is do-able for both places?

Onsen, I recommend rather Beppu than Nagasaki.
Beppu has many kind of hot springs you can make onsen hopping, and it takes about 3 and half hours from Fukuoka (Hakata Station) by JR super express. If you don’t have enough time, I recommend Yufuin on your way to Beppu, 2 and half hours journey time from Hakata by JR super express. Yufuin is one of the best place in Kyusyu, is very popular destination for lady’s tourists. You can enjoy onsen, shopping as well as sight seeing. Further information, see the following web-site. http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/RTG/RI/kyushu/oita/yufui

Thanks so much for your reply. I enjoyed myself a lot at Yufuin. Did not go to Beppu. Yufuin is absolutely gorgeous. I went onsen hopping at Yunohira too.
Bee :)
