We'll be taking the train from London to Leeds and need to rent a car. Are there any options close to the train station? We were told that the airport was the only place to go. Can we get a car at the train station?

The link above shows the station as a possibility (have not explored further). Try googling the UK pages only on www.google.co.uk for 'car hire leeds station'. I suspect you'll have a good choice of options. We tend to use 'hire' rather than 'rent' when referring to cars, which might help in your search.

There is a Hertz at the station as far as i can rememeber - you can definatly hire a car at all main line stations. The big question is - do you really have to? Bear in mind the minute you leave the station area you are on some very busy roads ona right hand drive car on the left hand side of the road.
What is your first destination? If it is somewhere smaller could you take the train there and hire a car somewhere quieter and then get used to an English car?
I live in Yorkshire so ask anything you need to.

There is an excellent Tourist info place in the station who will definitely help. Its called Yorkshire Gateway. Opposite Macdonalds near to ticket booths.

A good alternative is to leave the station and go down nearby Wellington Street (5 min walk) where there is a Europcar branch. See contact detils below. Contact them and they may just sort you out right from the station.

Other alternatives you may find in the other link. It may be best to get out of the city by train, taxi etc and pick up a hire car from there. For example, get taxi to a rental office out of city centre but in direction of where youre going will mean you dont hve to figure out the city centre roads and then you get a car going to where you want to go.

But just to tell you that Leeds city centre aint a pleasant plce to drive if you dont know it. You could spend hours trying to get out of the city alone unless you know where to go. There are many one ways and quite confusing signs.
