| Victoria | Best Indian Restaurant? Posted: Sat May 6, 2006 07:43 PM UTC
What is the best Indian restaurant in Victoria? I generally hear about 50-50 between Da Tandoor and Sabris, but I'm wondering if there's another local favorite.

I depends on what you are looking for. Da tandoor is great if you don't mind dropping some money.. it's not cheap. At least $14 pe plate and you will want 2-4 for 2 people. Sabri has a buffet fo $6 at lunch or $8 at dinner. The ambience is not as cozy or relaxing as da Tandoor but the al you can eat buffet has great variety and good food.

That's all she write in vic. Still they are the best two. And there are quite a few. But they don't even compare!
The best chinese food, however, is in China town at Wah lai Yuen. They are terribly rude and the ambience is not all that nice but the food makes up for it 150%. As long as you order from the regular menu...

I'm supposed to be choosing a restaurant for an Indian lunch this week. Do you think the buffet at Sabri would satisfy vegetarian diners? Are there enough meatless dishes?

I am a vegi and i was quite satisfied. There are 2 or 3 chicken dishes at Sabri and the rest are vegi. Tey also have an A la Carte menu.

So I checked out Sabri... considering how ridiculously cheap it is, the food is fine. I wouldn't say it's great, but it's a lot better than the Indian food I was eating in Italy and it's 1/4 of the price. Next time I'll try Da Tandoor, but I would really like more suggestions if anyone has them!

I'm at YVR tonight (23:55 flight to Gatwick) and on the way out to the ferry I noticed a new Indian restaurant where Blackies (I think) used to be. Called the Sagar I believe. Anyone tried it?
Tomorrow I'll be in jolly old England and may try and have some Indian food there. Personally I think Sabri's food is muck and would pay the extra and eat at Da Tandoor. What do people think of the Maharaja - I haven't been there for a while but they are still open aren't they? I thought their buffet was marginally better than Sabri. Bye for now. Susan
