Well first you could spend about 4 days in Melbourne to see the city centre, St Kilda and the suburbs. You can go to Geelong and the Great Ocean Road, taking 2 days and spend 2 days in the Grampians. You can visit the peninsula's and Philip Island in 3 days and go up to the Murray river for 3 days. So I'd say about 2 weeks. There's much more to do around there, but I reckon these are the major attractions.

Do you mean Victoria, Canada? If so, 2 nights, 3 at the most, would be sufficient time to see the main attractions.

1. Plan one day for the Buchart Gardens... travel time, park, tea and shopping will run you about six hours.

2. You can do the main attractions in the Inner Harbour in one day: The Royal BC Museum, the Inner Harbour Causeway, the Empress Hotel and shopping along and around Government Street.

3. Devote a third day to Victoria's natural attractions, including whale watching and a walk along Dallas Road to see windsurfers and kite flyers.

4. Spend a fourth day doing things that appeal especially to you: exploring Chinatown, visiting Sidney (known for it's great bookstores) or Craigdarroch Castle.

I would say that four FULL days would allow you to see everything you wanted.

2 nights is more than enough. Beyond that, you'll want to start exploring beyond Victoria.

... but of course, what JetGirly suggests is also great. I suppose since I've been to Victoria many times now, I find that 2 nights is more than enough for me, but if you're new and plan to spend one full day at Butchart Gardens 3 nights be better.
