Kirkenes Travel from Kirkenes to Oslo?
Posted: Mon June 9, 2003 11:14 PM UTC
I am planning a trip along the coat of Norway. It ends/begins in Kirkenes, and I need to know how to get to/from Oslo.

I am aware of the airport, bit I havent found any information about train connections. I would like to take a night train to/from Kirkenes. Does anyoune know if service is avaliable, and where on the internet do I find more information?

Thanks

The train does not go as far north as Kirkenes, so you'll have to take boat/plane the last part (it's a long way). More info on the train at:

btw, a nice way to travel to Kirkenes is using the coastal steamer. Take the Train to Bergen and the "Hurtigruten" from Bergen to Kirkenes. More on:

Hei ...

Norwegian trains stop in Fauske ... From there it's over two days by bus to Kirkenes.

Most likely you plan a trip with Hurtigruta Bergen - Kirkenes - Bergen. You can also book Bergen -Kirkenes, and a flight back to Oslo. The flights are much cheaper when booked in advance in combination with your cruise. Individual tickets are very expensive in Norway ....

Another option might be (if you have time) to travel from Kirkenes to Northern Finland (Rovaniemi) and take the train from there southover (Rovaniemi - Turku, then ferry to Stockholm and train to Oslo)

If you are considering the Hurtigruten, you could well do with reading some info on it that I have put on another site - might save you a fair bit of money. E-mail me if you are interested.
