We're going to Iceland for the 1st time later this month & renting a car to see South Iceland on our own. We'd like to find a local guide or at least transportation out to Thorsmork to hike for a few hours. Given the water crossings, it seems essential to have someone take us but we don't want to backtrack to Reykjavik & take an all day bus tour.
Any ideas?? Thanks! |

Hi!
You should be able to get a bus from the main bus station in Iceland, and I shouldn't think it takes all day! Their summer schedule is up now, only this part of the country (South) is still missing. Check in every few days at : http://www.bsi.is/index_english.html. There are also bus trips to Thorsmork on this website, only they start on June 1st: http://www.thorsmork.is/schedule/schedule.html You could write and ask though. Have a very nice trip!
