Plettenberg Bay Where to Stay?
Posted: Sat April 29, 2006 09:09 PM UTC
My fiance and I are looking to stay 1 night in Plett. I have checked out a lot of websites and it is very difficult to tell which one to choose. I would like to stay close to the water. All of the reviews I have read either say the hotel looks tired (re: Plett Hotel) or the reviewer's comments only talk about the wonderful breakfast served. Help!

We Recently stayed at Milkwood Manor and were disappointed over a few things, a fuse blew in one room and they had to move us, no air con (it was hot) an ddespite assurances when we booked - the restaurant (Thai) was not open as it was being used for a private party.

However we were very pleased with the St James in nearby Knysna - http://www.stjames.co.za/

Regards

John

Close to the water - how close? The only Plett hotels that I can think of quickly, close to the "water", are the Beacon Isle and the Keurbooms. (The latter is on a river/lagoon). Which "Plett hotel" did you see the breakfast review of - there is a hotel called "The Plettenberg" and a different "NH Plettenberg Bay Hotel".

Do you really want to be in an hotel, and not in a smart guest lodge?

Have you considered Tsala? Each suite has a mini-pool.

I am actually considering Africa's Call. They have a honeymoon suite available at a reasonable price. Has anyone stayed there? Any feedback- postive or negative.

Also, should we stay in Mossel Bay? I have read that it is industrial. Any other recommendations on the way from Hermanus to Plett?

Have you considered that "Africa's Call" is probably in suburbia with neighbouring houses all around?

I would also skip Mossel Bay - there are much more scenic places further on.

With your golfing husband (then), have you considered Fancourt?

It is on Robberg Beach- is that the suburbs? We do not have time in our itinerary for Joe to play golf- and he says as this is our honeymoon he will abstain :)

19 Cordovan Crescent.......

We normally only find "crescents" in suburbia. I often go to Plett and know that the area adjacent to the Robberg beach is very densely developed in some parts. Here is a less dense view:

The really scenic stretch of the Garden Route is Wilderness, Sedgefield, Brenton, Knysna, Plett, Nature's Valley. And of those, our personal favourite is Nature's Valley because of its unspoilt isolation with beautiful walks (beach, lagoon, forest and hills) - the others are very "touristy".

Our dream is to spend a while at Tranquility Lodge in Nature's Valley.
