| Huangshan | Advice on Transportation to Huangshan Posted: Fri April 28, 2006 01:19 AM UTC
We will be flying from Shanghai to Tunxi in May and will be staying 2 nights at Shiling Hotel on top of the mountain. What is the best way to go to the hotel from the airport? If we take a taxi to Huangshan, do we then go by foot and climb or cable car, how long does that take to go up and find our hotel? Does anyone know how to reach Shiling Hotel?

Don't know the location of Shiling, but if it locates on the top of the mountain it shouldn't take too long to hike up to the hotel. I have climbed in about three hours from the main gate to the top to the Huang Shan Beihai Hotel. If you are not in too bad shape then take a hike and enjoy the scenery, but remember that if you are taking your trip on May holiday then there's pretty crowded as Chinese like to go there too. The paths up&down are mostly single-lane so it may increase your rise time, also the men carrying goods (water, cola, etc) up to hotels shall block your progress occasionally. Anyway nice place to visit.

From Huangshan city you take a bus or taxi to the park entrance. From their you could hike up to the areas of interest but it will take 6 hours or more depending on your physical condition. That hike is not very scenic so I would suggest the cable car / gondola / funicular tramway. They stuff 35 bodies in like sardines in a metal can but it only takes about 15 minutes to the top.
