| Shannon | Would you stay in Killaloe? or Adare?or Bunratty.? Posted: Wed April 26, 2006 04:39 PM UTC
We are thinking of using the cheap flights to Shannon for 4 nights late May. I can get nice accomodation in either of the above but not knowing the areas I am unsure which to go for. We want a central place from which to sightsee by car but plenty of pubs etc within walking distance for the evenings. We also need activities for kids and teenagers! So which place is the best for our needs.

There is nothing in Bunratty...it is very artificial and touristy. Kilalloe is nice enough too but it's actually just a village, it is not that big at all. Adare would a good option.
Why not consider Limerick city? You couldn't be more central than that. Loads of decent bars like The Locke on Kings Island and there are plenty things to do, like the river walks, the castle and the big sport centre in UL.

Killaloe is a gorgeous village with plenty of pubs and eaterys nearby - but other than that it is a bit removed from everywhere else. Just down the road is an actiivty centre where used by the University for water sports but you can use the lake for swimming and there is a lovely forest just off it.
Bunratty is on the main dual carraigeway to Limerick/Clare - not much there besides the castle for scenery. Adare is just outside Limerick and is another beautiful place, very scenic it has a manor, golf course, little cottages, plenty of eating places etc. As the other reader mentioned as it is close to Limerick you will find plenty to see and do in the city also.
