Varadero is close to Havana, and it can be a very interesting day tour if you have never been. And there are also more varieties of day trips available from this part of Cuba than in Holguin. The beaches along the coast in Holguin province are very beautiful, but are far away from larger towns. It's about an hour ride to Holguin city from the resort area. The excursions in Holguin are mainly boat trips and jeep tours. You can also book a day trip to Santiego de Cuba, but it's a lonnngggg ride and you get to see a lot, but not enough time to explore as they take you to many places in one trip.

Have been to Guadalavaca 10 times, Las Brisas 9 Club amigo 1 Its a great area good snorkeling from shore in front of the Columbus statue on the beach in front of club amigo. Both resorts haveareas where you can sit away from the crowd and enjoy yourselves. Club amigo is the cheaper of the two. There is a craft market every day the venders change every day so if you see it buy it as the craftsmen come once every 14 days. You can snorkle from boats 2hrs for $10 they have 8 diferent reef areas to explore. They also have a catamaran tour that will take you uot for the day lunch and bar included can't remember price. Peddle boats and kyaks are free. At the far end of Brisas there is awalkway that goes out into the water about 50m go strait out from this and there is a small reef that holds some beautiful fish. Have stayed at Brisas Jibacoa (He ba co a) 1/2 way between Veradero and Havana, quiet and secluded A1 service, nice resort, 45 min from Havana. Very small town nearby.Craftsmen come in to resort two or three times a week. tour to havana 65. taxi may be cheaper. Hope this helps. Will send some pics. Bill

Hey, what's up?
Just visit my VirtualTourist's Homepage, and see some pics from Varadero.
Varadero is near to every other important place in Cuba, and its beach quality is better than Guardalavaca, for sure.
From Varadero will be easier you visit Havana at least for one or two nights.
