Hi Jan
I'm not sure what you interests are, but I kept myself occupied on Thassos as follows: - I undertook the very scenic walk from Thassos Town through the overlooking pine-covered mountains on a number of mornings. The views over the town and the harbour from the top are superb. The pines also shade you from the hot sunshine, making it a very pleasant walk; - I visited the superb sandy beach at Skala Potamia. If you're staying in Thassos Town there are regular boats that make the short trip along the coast to Skala Potamia and other, quieter beaches; - I caught a bus to the resort town of Limenaria in the south-west of the island and then walked along the coast to Pefkari and Potos. These are all laid back beach resorts with nice beaches and a number of cafes and tavernas; - I took the ferry across to the very picturesque town of Kavala on the Greek mainland. I highly recommend that you spend a day in Kavala, it's a fairly large town with some wonderful views. Take a walk along the main road for amazing views of the Panagia area of town. Have a great trip - Thassos is a beautiful island! Jonathan

Hi again!
Thanks for your answer, just what I looking for! I can tell a little more about me and what I'm looking for. I'm a man, 48 years old, travelling alone. I travel to Greece every year, one trip in May and one in July. The trip in May is usually a photo trip. I travel to a place in Greece where I can find nice places to take photos, this year Thassos. I have been to Epirus area, Zagori, Crete, Peloponnes, at these trips in May where I use the most of the time whit my camera(s). I lake to take pictures of spring time, flowers and insects, waterfall, old stone bridges, old villages and what ever what is special for the place I visit, so I hope to get some tips what (and where) I can find at Thassos at this time of year!? When I know what to take photo of I will find a place to stay close to this place(s). I have a book in German and I even don’t read German, but this was the only book I find at Internet about Thassos. The books name is Thassos and Samothraki by Michael Muller Verlag. This book give me some ideas what to expect, but if someone have any tips I will be happy for them. Taverns and bars are not important; there is always some of them all over the island, the same with nice beaches. So any ideas what to see at Thassos when I is there for one week from 14 May 2006!? Hi again, Jan
If I was at home, I'd be able to give you a lot of website links that I have in my favourites. Let me have a quick Google and see what I can find: Ok, http://www.thassos-island.gr/ (loads of useful information on this site, including some nice photo albums); http://www.greekisland.co.uk/thassos/thassos.htm (plenty more info, with the site split into separate chapters for each village on the island); http://www.gothassos.com/ (more useful info, with some nice pics in the photo directory and a section on the island's villages); http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=thassos&hl Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any of the interior villages of the island, but I do recall that Theologos was a popular place that people visited. I think you'll enjoy the pine-covered mountains overlooking Thassos Town. Thassos is a small island, so you don't need to worry too much about where you stay......all the sights are within a short walk or bus journey. Have a great time! Jonathan

Hire a car or bike and do the whole island, it only takes about 2 and a half hours all round. Alternatively get a local bus and hop on and off when you see a location you fancy. Aliki, Golden beach, Potos and Rachoni are great places. There are so many good fish restaurants but do try Likos on Rachoni, It's cheap and brilliant.Vigli off Golden beach for nightlife and the view.
Enjoy. Cat

There is no too much to be seen in Thassos. A poor nature and naked hills. Hotels and service are no good. It is a strange place with strange people. Today you could find a nice place with many smiled people and when you go again tomorrow it is like after a bomb - nobody, all shops are closed, also restorants. Greeks are lazy. There are no too many good beaches - too rocky, but water is really cristal - to salty for plants. Information anout transport is not good too, so you d better rent a vehikle if you want to travel around the island. It is not too big, so you can drive for a day or two and see many things - rocks, naked hills, olive trees, alcove...Also book ate least 4 stars hotel if you want to watch a television if weather is no good, for the others there is only a conventional antennas for two greek television and the signal is very bad. Be ready that rarely greeks speak any other languages. If you go to Limenaria, a good restaurant there is Mathios - they have 2 waiters, in the others sometimes they dont have waiters and the chief himself will serve you.
