Is it possible to get an overland tour from Chengdu to Tibet?

How long will it take to get permits? About how much will it cost and holnge will it take? I plan to go in may.

Not sure about the price of the tour as I went on my own. The permit takes a couple of days to obtain, although you don't actually receive a piece of paper.

thank you for the reply. i also enjoyed your vt information on lasha. it looks like you flew into lasha from chengdu. i was thinking about going over land. but now i am thinking about flying into lasha, then touring the lasha area. if i feel ok after that, going by land back to chengdu. do you have a canada passport? i have a us passport but my traveling companion has a prc passport.

does anyone have experance leaving tibet overland?

Thanks for reading my page on Lhasa. I think you can go overland from Lhasa to Chengdu (not 100% sure though). Part of this road is treturous and is prone to landslide in the rainy season. It is a very very long journey by bus. I could be wrong, but you may have to arrange some paperwork to go this route, as it passes through areas that aren't opened for foreigners.

It's 100% possible to get an overland tour from Chengdu to Lhasa. But I suppose it's very expensive if there's just one of you to rent a car(maybe land cruiser). And you should get permit before you get into Tibet. So you can do it in Chengdu.
