| Haarlem | Haarlem invasion Posted: Wed April 19, 2006 05:23 AM UTC
OK! am invating Haarlem on Sunday 23rd of April, yes in a few days so you are warned -`)
I won't be coming alone. I have a group of approx 116 people. About 75 of them or foreign students on low budget `-) We offer them a free drink and if the weather is ok, I know a place where we can sit outside (at the little market) at a local pub where they can consume their picknick if they take a drink. Not all of them will have brought lunch and might want to search for an affordable place to eat something. I was thinking at Hema? Does any one knows if it is opened as well? It is koopjesmarkt, so regular shops will be opened. I am not so sure about the Hema however? |

LOL inventing new words again
invading and invitation I guess ... means you invite yourself and others to a place so it looks more like an invasion :)

Hi irisbe (D)
I think the HEMA will be open; look at: http://www.geocities.com/vvvzuidkennemerland/koopzondagen.htm please note the: * = op deze data zijn er speciale evenementen. De winkels mogen open maar biedt niet de garantie dat ze daadwerkelijk open zijn Have fun; I'll be at Zeewolde that day, PJ

23 april, see http://www.haarlem.nl/smartsite28095.htm
The shops are open and the Hema management would be very very dumb not to be open as well. On April 23rd it's also Bloemencorso. So you're in luck (or not, if you want to avoid crowds). The procession itself is on Saturday and the wagons will be on display in the center of town until Sunday evening. There's also Kermis on the Grote Markt during this weekend. That means if you choose to sit on a terrace there, your view will be well blocked. All in all, you've chosen a very crowded weekend, Dani! Have fun and hopefully it's good weather. Oh tip: you may want to have everyone buy packed lunches and eat them during a boat tour along the Haarlem canals. 6,50 euro per person. http://www.woltheus-haarlem.nl/?page=contact It might be wise to make reservations!

Hi Anke Thea
I did on purpose chose this weekend because of the day after the flower parade and the flower market and I hoped the Koopjes zondag. We will not be having that much time as we have a guided tour (The Flemish in Haarlem) for about 1,5 hour, then we have about 1,5 hour free and we take the bus around 2 pm for an afternoon (till approx. 18u30) in Keukenhof. I remember from the last time I was there that after 5 pm Keukenhof will be a bit less crowded. I realise it is the most crowded day in Haarlem I picked but it might seduce people to visit it again next time if they see how vivid this little city is ;) I hope the resto on top of the V&D or Hema? will be open so some part of the group can chose to have a lunch there maybe. I think the canalboat trip will be for a next time :) nice tip. on a less crowded day and with just a few. I am just with too many now.
