| Foz do Iguaçu | Foz to Rio Posted: Tue April 18, 2006 11:35 PM UTC
Hi,
I will be flying to Iguazu Falls from Beunos Aires and spending about 3 days - hoping to visit both Agentine and Brazilian sides. From there I was planning on going on to Rio and was wondering what's the best way to get there. Does anyone know how long it would take by bus or whehter flights are resaonably priced and a better option? Thanks! |

Hi, it depends of course on your money situation, flying is faster and more expensive, of course. I went a few years ago with my father (70 years) and my son (6) from Rio to Iguacu by bus and it was very funny - we were the only tourists - all the others were smugglers on their way to Paraquay. I personelly fly when it are business trips but whenever I do privat trips in Brasil I take the bus, great buses and you get to know a lot of people, for people who love to speak a lot - like me, its great. good drivers, clean, everything perfect with brasilian buses. i will go tomorrow night again for 3 hours.
best regards from Rio! Silvia

If you decide to fly GOL is the Brasilian low fare airline and are very good. The web site is https://compre.voegol.com.br/ so you can check your ticket prices there depending on your date of travel. On the web site unless you have a Brasilian credit card, the only international card they accept is AMEX otherwise you need to call them to purchase the ticket or buy it at an airport location.
As for the buses, it is a very long ride from the falls to Rio, very long. So unless you really like long bus rides think about a flight. One thing you might consider if you do not have your tickets already for the falls is to try TAM and buy a South American Air Pass. The price is based on the number of segments and length of the flights. So you could book Buenos Aires to Iguazu and then another segment Iguazu to Rio. Might get a better deal on both. Naturally if you are going else where in Brasil you can add additional flights. You must buy the pass outside southamerica and is only good for 30 days of travel. TAM's web site is http://www.tam.com.br/ Suerte SAM

Why would you go directly to Rio? Have you no much time to stay in Brazil?
Outherwise make the following: Take the bus to Curitiba and make the traintrip to Paranagua through the mountains. Then take the bus to Dourados and continue to Bonito. Here you cann make beautiful walk in the nature (Rio Sucuri is the best) Then take the bus to Miranda or Corumba and visit the Pantanal. This is the best region for seeing wils animals and birds. Then take the bus directly to Rio (more or less 30h from Corumba) or take the plane from Campo Grande to Rio. I don't know there are planes directly from Corumba to Rio. You have to informate there. Doing like this, you enjoy the most beautiful places (in nature) of Brazil. Kind regards

The fare on GOL to fly is pretty cheap.
And Silvia, I would say you were lucky travelling with folks who deal in "moamba" (goods from Paraguay). According to my friend whose father sells moamba, the buses with goods on them are held up along the route and robbed at gunpoint regularly! He has lost everything several times.
