I've never been to South Carolina. Although everything I have heard has all been very positive! I look forward to going there in the future! Anyone live there and like to give me advice and places to visit? I am especially wanting to go to Beaufort. Thanks for all of the responses!
I don't live there, but I've been to Beaufort three times.
Beaufort is a lovely city with a nice waterfront and walking tours (self guided) of the historical homes. http://www12.virtualtourist.com/m/4a9c6/d304d/6/#T
There is a very historic cemetery there (initiated by Abe Lincoln) and Paris Island Marine Base is also near here, although that's not so much a tourist destination.
One of the MUST SEE destinations in South Carolina IMHO is Brookgreen Gardens near Murell's Inlet.
And of course Charleston and Georgetown are also nice towns to visit.
I love Beaufort! Be sure to take the carriage ride, we had a great driver who told us all the interesting information about the beautiful old historic homes. Drive out to Hunting Island and visit the light house and the lovely beach. Eat at Bistro 205 and be sure to get the she-crab soup!!!! If you get up to Huntington Beach State park near Myrtle Beach you will find a wonderful beach and a really interesting house that was the home of the noted American Sculptress, Anna Hyatt Huntington.
