Hotel Sibylla Posted: Tue April 18, 2006 03:58 AM UTC
Has anyone stayed at Hotel Sibylla in Delphi? What is the hotel like? Is it a clean hotel? I cannot find any reviews or photos online. Appreciate all feedback. Thanks.

Hi sunset gal,
I stayed at Hotel Sybilla last month. It is in a good location, walking distance(10 mins) from Delphi site. It is a bit older looking(rooms) but is very clean. Ask for a room at the back overlooking the gorge. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
Make sure and go to Vakos for dinner( ask the hotel staff for directions). If you have a car, you can park on the road.
There is a good internet cafe on the same road as the hotel(at the end of the block) going toward the site. Fast machines, good coffee, good prices, nice people.
I hope this helps. Enjoy Delphi--it is breathtaking!!!!
Have fun in Greece!

Thanks! This was really helpful!
Did you have to make a connection from Delphi to Meteora/Kalampaka or vice versa? I’m trying to find accurate info for the bus trip there but have not been able to find any.

Hi again,
Glad to help. As for bus transfers, it can be difficult,I think. I rented a car so it was easier for me. Have you tried the ktel website? When are you going? I will try ktel myself and get back to you.... i do think you have to go to Lamia and then transfer to Trikala then transfer to Klambaka. The last one is easy because Trikala is only 20 mins from Kalambaka.
Make sure and stay at Koko Roka Rooms when in Kalambaka. Cheap, clean rooms, great! food, comfy beds and great views. Trust me, stay there. #24320 24554 email-kokaroka@yahoo.com Arthur will pick you up at the bus station if you call him. I have stayed there three times!!
I love to help people plan so let me know what else you need.
I will be in touch

Hi sunset gal,
Here's what I found. Buses go from Amfissa( about half and hour from delfi) to Lamia and then to Trikala- Kalambaka on at least a daily basis. Please remember to build in time for things not working out the way you want them to. It is Greece and sometimes if you plan too much, or too tightly, then all the dominos fall and you are hooped. Prepare to be flexible.......things don't always go according to plan in Greece, but that is part of it's charm as long as you are prepared for it!! Buses leave ON TIME though, and even early occasionally.
Have you considered renting a car?? I would do it again in a heart beat. It was really fun. Very reasonable for prices as well. Just my two cents. I have taken the bus all over Greece as well and it is very good too.
Do you need help with anything else??
Good luck sunset gal. Have a great time!

Hello applerock,
Thanks for your help! We cannot rent a car cos both of us do not have driving licenses! Stems from living in a city with great transportation :P
Anyway, some questions. Not sure if you know this, but should I get my ferry ticket to Santorini first or on the ferry? I heard it is quite chaotic in the morning and our ferry leaves at 7.25 am!
We will stay in Kalampaka on a Thursday, leaving Friday afternoon. We will have half a day Thursday and the morning Friday to see Meteora. So our sightseeing has to be split into 2. Any idea which route we should take? What time does the sun set there in May?
Then on Friday we will try to get to Galaxidi from Kalampaka. We will be there in the night. I doubt there are any mor buses leaving at 9 pm to Delphi. Any recommendations on accomodations? Most hotels do not have a website and its really hard to decide if we should stay there or in Itea since the bus passes by these 2 towns.
Thai is of course IF we manage to get there with all the connections! The route I found was through Larisa I think. I dont have the info right this minute. It is one change there and on to Amfissa/Itea/Galaxidi. What is Amfissa like? Have you been there?
So sorry for all the questions! But I have to grab my chance :)

RE: RE: RE: Hotel Sibylla Posted: Fri April 21, 2006 02:44 AM UTC
Hi again sunset gal,
OK let's see.....tickets to Santorini...buy them before you get to the port at any ferry ticket office. Also try to take a Blue Star ferry. They are new and faster. Have you thought about flying? It is worth the money to not spend the whole day on the ferry. Look up aegean airlines and check for flights that day. Or take the ferry. I always weigh the money versus time scale and time always wins when you are only there for a short time. Don't get me wrong, ilove the ferries......
kalmbaka....not all monastaries are open everyday as the monks and nuns are very independant!! Most monastaries are closed for siesta between 1 and4ish( except Grand Meteora open 9-5 except MOndays)... the info place in Kalmbaka will have all hours for all monastaries( in the main square by the big fountain). You don't need to see them all- 3 or 4 would be sufficient. But the views are great.TAke a taxi up to Grand Meteroa in the afternoon and WALK down the hill seeing what you can of Varlaam, Rousanou, and St Nicholas. Walk back through Kastraki back to Kalambaka--about 7 kms but worth every step. On Friday if you are feeling strong;>, take the path from KOka Roka rooms up to Agia Trias and Agios Stephanos. Please take water. It is not bad at all, really. Watch for turtles on the path! Always refill water bottles at the monastaries. NO idea about sunset but maybe around 8??
Just asking....why are you going to Itea or Glaxidi?? You pass the crossroad to Delfi on your way coming from Kalambaka. Neither town looked worth staying in to me personally, Delfi itself was much prettier. I heard from the guy at the internet cafe who is from Amfissa(not on the tourist path) that it is not all that nice either. i only drove past it. here's an idea, use it or not;), take a taxi to Delfi from Amfissa. It seriously is no more than a half and hour drive and probably would not cost no more than 25 Euros. Work a deal with the driver.
If you do end up staying there instead of delfi then it is fine to just arrive and find something..really, you will always find something. Just ask to see it before you agree to stay!
I am hoping this helps you. I wil check in periodically to see if you need anything else. Have fun!

Hi Applerock,
All your advices are great! The reason for the ferry is that we would like to see the great view coming in from the harbour. We will take a plane coming back to Athens. As for ferry ticket offices, any idea where I can find them? Would we be expected to pay commission or just the ticket price?
As for Delphi, our first choice was to stay in Delphi. However buses dont go that late even from Amfissa. I tried the KTEL page that everybody told me to but its not that helpful with no results coming up.
Then I read that Galaxidi is quite nice so I thought ok we can rest for one night after all the walking in Kalampaka in the day and traveling the whole afternoon by bus. But it would be sweet to go straight to Delphi of course. I will see what I can find out from the Internet.
Thanks :)

Hi Sunset gal,
You can buy tickets for the boats when you get off the metro at the port. You may be able to find ticket places around Syntagma Square. There is an info centre right beside Syntagma Square by where the busses for the Airport leave. They may be able to help you. All ticket prices are regulated by the government so no worries there. Not all agencies sell for all boats so you may have to look for your boat line. Remember it is a very LARGE port so leave lots of time to find and catch your boat. If it is a Blue Star Ferry then they dock right across the street from the metro station.
May will be lovely!!
All the best,
Applerock
