Hotels in Oslo

Apologies in advance for a sort of general post but looking for feedback on 3 hotels i am looking at staying in this July.

Soria Moria (looks lovely, how far out of the city is it on the metro)
Clarion Collection Hotel Savoy
Scandic Sjoelyst

We are in town for 3 days, have never been to Oslo and just want to wander round. In terms of price they all come in around the same so other factors would be more relevant. Have already checked Trip Advisor but just checking to see if anyone has anything else to add!

many thanks
Dave

When I was in Oslo for business, I always went to:
<Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica Oslo.>
The view is just breathtaking, but it's out of town.
I remember the food was very good.

We are going to stay at the Hotel Opera when we go to Oslo. It is connected to the train station.

It is within walking distance of most attractions.

As you said, most of the hotels offer similar things at similar prices.

Location, location, location.

Hi Dave,

Go for Clarion Collection Hotel Savoy, it is located in the city center and you'll have an excelent starting point for all kinds of activites. Its located right next to the National Galery and the citys main street, city hall and boats to the viking ship museum etc.

The Soria Moria is in deed located in idyllic surroundings, but is a long way from the city and even the metro. Don't even know if theres any public transport going up there.

I would not recomend The Scandic Sjoelyst as theres not much interesting in that area and you need to spend 10 min. to get downtown.

Enjoy Oslo

Hi David!

I have some tips for various interests and economy in my Oslo pages and hotel recommendations. Maybe one of them will suit your needs. I tend to agree you should try and find something that is more centrally located. If you let me know more about what you like to see and what you expect in terms of quality and price of a hotel, I can probably pinpoint a good option or two for you.

Soria Moria is almost at the Holmenkollen. You can get there by the Metro, but it's still a bit far. I've had conferences on the hotel. I'ts very nice, particulary if you have nice weather and can enjoy the view.

Clarion is in the city center, you will not have to take the metro to go anywhere.

Sjølyst is a bit far, although it has good communications to the center.

Out of the three hotels here I'd go for Clarion Collection Hotel Savoy.

I am in Oslo in August after an Artic Cruise and there are bargains (under $100/night) in Oslo hotels but you just have to look all over the web to find them. Surprisingly, depending on the hotel website you check there are variations of up to $70/night so just be persistent in searching. I had the same problem with Iceland which is even more expensive but did find reasonable hotels.
