Algarve Vilamoura to Lisbon by train

Is it possible and fairly quickk to visit Lisbon by train from Vilamoura or the nearest station from there for a day trip? We are staying there for a week in May and will be hiring a car but thought the train would be better for a trip to the capital. I have read that it is about 2 - 3 hours by road but would the train be better?

Hi!

The thing is: the train doesn't go by Vilamoura. You have to catch it at Faro or Albufeira. In Vilamoura, you can take the bus to Lisboa. The travel time is about the same. But the bus is cheaper...
