They are indeed very different. Lake Louise is beautiful, and it's glacier hangs just above it. But it's very touristy. Lots of people.
There is Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes, and they tend to be off the beaten path for many tourists coming to the mountains. Upper is much more scenic than Lower and was in the one of the final scenes in the movie Brokeback Mountain. You will find not very many people there, especially if you are going in May. Try to do both if you can, but since you are visiting your first priority should be Lake Louise. Also, don't forget Bow Lake, which is about 1/2 an hour from Lake Louise on Highway 93 north towards Jasper. To me it's just as beautiful as Lake Louise.
