Kyongju How to get to Gyeongju from Gimhae Airport after buses stop running
Posted: Thu April 13, 2006 12:36 PM UTC
Hello all,

My flight from Yangyang to Gimhae was changed so I will land at 8pm and probably not make the last bus to Gyeongju which leaves at 8.25. What are my alternatives and does anyone know how much a taxi would be?

thanks
Jo

Gimhae airport is in Busan. Gyeongju is ~45 minutes north of Ulsan.

I'm not sure what bus you were planning to take, but might be a later bus that services Ulsan, you could stay there for the night, then continue up to Gyeongju the following morning. Memory serves me right, Busan to Ulsan is 2.5 hours by car, then another 45~60 minutes to Gyeongju.

I always drove myself, so I'm not sure the taxi amount for a trip that far, but I would assume Ulsan/Gyeongju would be $35 USD minimum for your driver to have return fare.

You are correct in that the last bus leaves at 8:25pm. You are probably going to have to stay overnight in Busan and take the train up in the morning. I think the last train leaves at 9:30pm headed that way and I don't thik you will make it to the station from the airport. I am sure it will be much cheaper to stay the night at a yogwan than trying to take a taxi all the way to Gyeongju from the airport.

Thanks for all the input! I am not sure yet how all this will play out but since I had not been notified of the schedule change I made a formal complaint to KAL and they have promised to seat us in the front row and escort us to the bus so we may make it... Having worked in customer service for a hotel chain I am somewhat of an expert in complaining, not very charming I know.

Here's another option that might do the trick if you're determined to take a taxi to Gyeongju: take the airport bus to Ulsan, the last one leaves at 9:50. Get off at Eonyang and take a cab or city bus from there. It'll be cheaper than taking a cab all the way from Gimhae. A friend of mine has taken a cab from Ulsan to Gyeongju and it was 30,000 won, about $32US. It would be twice as expensive taking a cab directly from Gimhae.
