| Enschede | day trips from Enschede into Germany Posted: Thu June 5, 2003 07:44 PM UTC
I would like some information about day trips starting in Enscede and going into Germany. We are interested in touring some of the castles in Germany.
It would be alright if it was necessary to stay in Germany for 1 night. Thank you Daphne Eze |

Hi there,
I can really recommend the area for cycling - there are shorter and longer tours, all part of the "100 Schloesser-Route (100 castles tour) in the Muensterland area, leading into the Netherlands on several spots. You could get most information in the VVV office in Enschede when you are there, or try to gather some of it now thru http://www.muensterland-tourismus.de Think this site is only in German, but they may have some (digital) information in english if you write them an email. Towns to visit and tour castles: along the Enschede to Muenster railway line Burgsteinfurt and Muenster, both have several castles. And on the Enschede to Dortmund railway line I would recommend Coesfeld or Rosendahl, from where you could also vist Havixbeck and Billerbeck, and Luedinghausen, that has Burg Visschering (pic/linked on the website) and the nearby Nordkirchen castle, called "Versailles of the North". Another great castle is in Bad Bentheim, which you can reach by train through Hengelo and Oldenzaal. Good luck, P.

I like Bad Bentheim. It's only 30 km's from Enschede.
Perfect day trip.

If you consider an overnight stay and visiting the castles along the Rhine river, goto Cologne for an overnight stay and have a one-day boat trip.
Enschede has a local train connection to Gronau (visit the LAGA2003) and Munster. From there you can travel by Bundes Bahn (German railways). There are Dutch bus-operators offering bus daytrips to Germany; one is OAD (http://www.oad.nl/index.asp) offering a trip to Tecklenburg-Bad Rothenfelde. If you want to know more visit the local Tourist office: VVV Enschede - Oude Markt 31 at Enschede (http://www.vvv-enschede.nl/). PJ
