Dinant Rochefort area questions
Posted: Wed April 12, 2006 02:43 PM UTC
I am planning to visit the Rochefort area this summer, my wife and I are trying to decide whether it would be better to stay in Rochefort proper or would it be easier to stay in a larger town like Dinant and driving (we will have a rental) to Rochefort. Our main purpose for the visit is to check out the Abbaye de Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy. Any information would be appreciated.

You live in such a large country, so you can't imagine how small Belgium is. But our country is very privileged with a lot of must sees at only 1/2 hour drive from each other. Even if you decide to stay in Brugge, you could plan a day in Rochefort. We live in Antwerp and often drive to Dinant, just for a hike. Great region! Still, If you prefer to book something around Rochefort or Dinant, check out first if the hotel has a parking place. The centre of Dinant could be a problem while there are parking meters almost everywhere.
Oh... and while you are there: don't forget to visit the "Vallée de la Molignée", Maredsous and Falaën... so beautiful! Another tip: the brewery "Du Bocq" in Purnode. I could go on writing lots of tips about this area, it's an absolute wonderful authentic region with a lot of hidden historical remains. You made a good choice!

Thanks so much for the tips, we will definitely take them into account. You are right about not taking into account the size of Belgium (as well as many other countries in Europe); I drive 45 minute each way to go to work here in the States.

Our next stop after Dinant and Brugge this summer is Antwerp, so if there are any tips you can offer, we would appreciate them. Like are there any "hidden" treasures we should not miss or what is a good restaurant to go to that is tourist friendly, but still offers quality, authentic food? And most importantly (for me) are there any breweries in Antwerp?

Thanks again,
Cory
