Transportation

What's the best way to get from Athens International Airport to the Divani Palace Acropolis Hotel, a hotel located at the base of the Acropolis. Would public transportation work, i.e., the subway or would taking a cab just be easier. I've heard a lot of bad cab stories so I'm kind of weary about it. What do you guys think?

According to their website, this hotel has a shuttle bus. Have you contacted them about picking you up at the airport?

This site also says the hotel is within walking distance from Syntagma Square, which is also easily accessible by public transportation from the airport. You could take a bus or the metro to Syntagma Square and either walk or take a taxi to the hotel. I've looked on a map of that part of Athens and it's definitely within walking distance unless you are travelling with a lot of luggage. If so, perhaps the taxi will be best. But check with the hotel first about their shuttle service.

The airport express E95 (i think) will take you to syntagma square, the bus ticket is 2.90 euros and the buses are very reliable. As for the Taxis, there are a lot of stories kicking about but \i haven't ahd any trouble, and I've been out here for 6 months. Just be aware that they are using the fare machine thing in the fare machine thing in the taxi rather than agreeing on a price. It should cost you 20-25 euros to get to Syntagma, no more! Just keep your wits about you and you'll be fine! Enjoy your stay.

I took a cab from the airport to the same general area and it was less than 20 Euros, experienced no problems.

Here is the site of the international airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" of Athens.

http://www.aia.gr/en/index.shtm

It has very good info about transportation to/from the airport and a good map of metro and bus lines.

As about taxis, thinks are not worse than at most big cities in the world. Just be careful with the taximeter.
