| Genoa | Work in Savona/Genoa??? Posted: Thu April 6, 2006 01:42 PM UTC
Good Afternoon,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Neil Agnew, a 27 year old Northern Irishman. I am relocating to Savona, Italy, on the 24th April 2006, with my partner. We already have an appartment in the center of Savona and my partner has a job, starting immediately. Therefore, I am currently looking for a position before I arrive. I am currently working as an IT support professional providing internet support to Eircom (Ireland's leading telecommunication company) customers. Does anyone know of any Native English Speaking positions or jobs within the tourism industry that may be suitable? I also have many years experinence as a barman. Are there any Irish/English pubs? I am very customer driven and my communication skills are excellent. I am ambitious, hardworking and very independent. I have lived abroad for many years and speak Dutch. I am available for an interview immediately upon my arrival. Can send CV on request. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Bye, Neil Agnew |

Hi Neil
My name is Richard I live in Dublin and Im considering a move to Liguria also as my wife misses her home and parents after living in Dublin for the last 15 years with me. Just a quick mail to ask did you get sorted out with a job yet. My wife (who is from arenzano) and I are toying with the idea of moving here. We have been coming here for the last 15years so we know the region pretty well in terms of geography, local ecomomics etc etc etc. It seems that really good jobs are hard to come by as the place is populated by young italian graduates with not enough well paid jobs to go around. Eg I know a MBA who would prefer to work at our local bagni than commute to Milan for a good well paid job..... However there are a couple of Irish bars that you could try that I know. Theres McSorleys in Chiavari (too far to commute) theres dirty nellys in Celle, McNamaras in arenzano. Irish bars here tend to be run by italians with no sign of any Irish anywhere !!!, that has been my experience anyway !!! You could teach English but the pay is really bad ie about 800 a month for 20 hours. And again the competition for these jobs is scary. I feel that the way to achieve success in living here is to take a year out and go to school and immerse yourself in the study of the lanuage. After 6 or 12 months you will find that the opportunities will come. Thats what I am thinking of doing if We come down here. I am lucky enough to be able to afford the time off however, i dont know if this is possible for you.. Your IT skills may well find a home, but only with a good working knowledge of the language. I think there is great opporunity here as well to work with IT, eg have you seen any of the immobiliare websites, they,re not great and a lot of them dont even have websites !!!! Anyway, let me know if you have found work or how you are finding your new life. SAVONA is a nice town which has being re-invigorated by new building and apartments down in the port and has benifited from a clean up over the the last few years. Let me know how you are getting on... Regards Richard Murphy
