Zandvoort Familiy-Holidays in Zandvoort

Hi friends,

is Zandvoort a good place for a quiet 2 weeks off with wife and 2 small children, or are there other places at the Dutch westcoast to recommend? Any suggestions are helpful and warmly welcome.

Thanks in advance,
marco

It is a good, but not a quiet place. But there are no quiet places along the dutch coast, certainly not in summer.

There are smaller places North of Zandvoort; have a look at http://www.hollandbeach.nl/

For children it might even be better to go to one of the islands (Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling or Ameland).

There are a lot of 'unspoiled' beaches (for as far as one can say that about the Dutch beaches in the Province of Zeeland. You might want to think about that if you don't want to share you're beach towels with the neighbours.. :-) The islands are very attractive too. But then so are many of the lakes in Friesland..

Zandvoort is a very busy place. I have two small children myself but I wouldn't go there. We went to the province of Zeeland last year what is better I think. We went to place like Veere, Middelburg that area which is also very nice for children. We went to this campsite called the Roompot, you can rent caravans etc. there. This year we will go to Noordwijkerhout, heard that is better, not as busy, as Zandvoort.

I agree that Zandvoort is too crowded in summer for quiet family holidays. I would suggest to go to Bergen aan Zee. It is one onf the most beautiful beach resorts in Holland, pretty quiet and nice nature, and - like Zandvoort - close to Amsterdam. The best (and maybe the cheapest, only about 15 eur per person and less for kids) place to stay is the Zeehuis, part of the naturefriends-organisation Nivon. I stayed there a few times with my daughter. I'ts next to the dunes and 500 metres to the beach. You can rent a room there and use the kitchen. It's a great place to stay with kids, because the kids can make new friends and play together.
Check out the website of Nivon for detailed information.

We didn't stay in Bergen aan Zee but have visited it once and it is a very nice place. If you can find a place there I think it is much better then Zandvoort. Enjoy your holiday.
