Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Genoa Nice to Genoa or Milan to Genoa
Posted: Tue April 4, 2006 02:40 PM UTC
Hello all,

Got a question regarding travelling to Genoa. I am relocating to Savona on the 24th April and have found cheap flights both to Milan/Linate or Nice. I was wondering has anyone got any information on where is best to travel from and information on train or bus time tables and costs?

Appreciate the help...

Thanks,

Neil

from milan malpensa you have direct buses at 11.30

from linate you have to take a bus to MIlano Central Station (stazione centrale) and then a train to genova or savona
trains timetables are here:
www.trenitalia.com

from nice you have a direct bus from the airport to genoa at 19.

For trains look at www.trenitalia.com

If i remember well, the distance from Savona to Nice is shorter than the Savona-Milan one.

I don't understand if your destination is Genoa or Savona.
Anyway, you can get either to Genoa or to Savona by train. Trains in Italy are cheaper than in France, so pricewise flying to Milan can be more convenient: you land in Linate, take a bus to the Stazione Centrale and then the train. From Milan to Genoa it takes about 1 hr and a half. Two hours to get to Savona.

From Nice to Savona it takes two hours by train, 2 and half to Genoa (same trains as those that stop in Savona). I don't know if there are buses from Nice airport to the station, a taxi can be expensive, because many drivers that pick up people at the International terminal overcharge a bit.

You can get there from Nice, you need to catch the 98 or 99 bus to Nice station, then the train to Savona, but you often need to change in Ventimiglia. Depending on connections, it's sometimes a long trip. There's also a bus from Nice Airport which leaves twice a day at 10.30am and 7pm, takes about 2 hrs to get to Savona and is a better plan if the times fit.
An intercity train from Milan will take from 2 1/4hrs and usually is direct, sometimes you have to change in Genova. Then add the time to get to the station, I've not travelled to/from Linate so can't help with that.
Good luck!

Sorry this isn't an answer but more of a question. I am new to how this works. We are travelling throughout Italy and then over to Barcelona. Several times we will take a train. Point to point tickets will
be better than a Eurail pass. From our itinerary we know what days we want to travel, is it best or cheaper to buy a block of tickets at one time for specific days, or better yet to buy as we go as we will not have definite times, only the dates, as we have all our lodging reserved.
I am having a great deal of trouble finding station names and on trenitalia can't use it unless I know the station, rather than just putting "Milan". I now realize Milan is probably Stazione Centrale, but what about Genoa? We will also travel from Venezia Mestre to Florence (?station), and then Siena to Pisa to Cinque Terre. Any advice appreciated.

Hi,

I'm not sure about the other places but Genoa has 2 stations, Principe and Brignole if this helps at all.

Happy travelling!
