| Chumphon | Place to stay. Posted: Sun April 2, 2006 06:41 PM UTC
Hi, I am thinking of staying in Chumpon for a couple of days before going to Koh Tao, any advise on where to stay, would Surat Thani be better? Thanks Steve.

Hi - can't comment on Chumpon but can give you my thoughts on Surat Thani if that might help. Surat really doesn't have much to recommend it other than as a jumping off point to the islands or as an overnight on your way back from the islands. In my opinion, it would not warrant more than an overnight stay.

Chumpon would be better if you're headed to Koh Tao (shorter ferry trip and you don't have to stop and change boats in Samui). Sorry, but don't have a hotel recommendation for you.

Thayang Seeport Hotel is well placed on the Pak Nam port just a few meters from the embarking point for ferries leaving for Koh Tao. They have large, clean and confortable rooms with bathrooms for around 500 - 600 bahts.
Ideal for anyone taking the 7.30 am ferry. Cheers, Ian.

There are not many hotels in Chumphon but enough across all price ranges. if you want top luxury then the luxurious new Tusita resort just north of Chumphon. The Cabana Resort is ideal for the mid price range, about THB 1,200 to THB 1,500, it has basic bungalows and more luxurious accommodation. In Chumphon Town the Paradorn Hotel is a good budget hotel from about THB 650. The Jansom Hotel is nice, prices from about THB 850. You can find all those on www.chumphon.8k.com
