| Delphi | bus from Olympia to Delphi? Posted: Thu March 30, 2006 04:52 AM UTC
Hi all. My boyfriend and I will be in Olympia in the first week of May 2006, and we were hoping to get to Delphi for a day or two. I've heard there is no train to Delphi, so we'll need to take the bus. Does anyone know where I could find a bus schedule/cost/name of bus-line? I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanx in advance! |

The public transport bus company in Greece is called KTEL.
From Olympia you take a local KTEL bus to Pirgos. There you change buses to go to Patras. In Patras you change buses again to Delphi. On this leg you may have to change buses again in Itea. The whole trip takes the larger part of the day. www.ktel.org

You have to be on the highway Kalamata - Pyrgos - Patras. To avoid many bus changes, try to catch the passing KTEL bus Kalamata-Thessaloniki or the KTEL bus Pyrgos-Thessaloniki, but you have to ask where the KTEL bus-stop is. Both follow the way: Patras - Rio Bridge - Itea - Amfissa - Lamia etc and thus passing very near from Delphi. Another option is to go by train to Patras and then take the KTEL bus to Thessaloniki. In Patras, KTEL terminal is very near to the Railway station.

now that we are home safe, I wanted to update anyone reading this looking for directions to delphi. Yes, the bus took us in the general direction, but left us on the side of the highway at the "entrance" to the city of Itea. We had to walk into town (towards the water) and found a taxi stand.. fortunately the driver was willing to take us to Delphi (15 Euros flat rate). While there was probably a bus station somewhere, it was nowhere in sight from where we were dropped off (A Shell gas station), and since the KTEL bus drops you off around dinner time (6 pm-ish), it was a little disconcerting. Difficulty was, the bus stop has changed since April 2006, and you have to ask specially if the driver will stop (apparently some don't). It was a great adventure, but watch your planning here more than usual to make sure you arrive ok.. the drive up to Delphi from Itea was about 15 minutes straight up the vertical face of the mountain!! not possible walking with packs!!
