| Ephesus | shortest way to ephesus Posted: Thu March 30, 2006 12:14 AM UTC
I am visiting family in Istanbul, Ankara and Bodrum. My first city is Istanbul, then Ankara after that. Is it better to go to Bodrum then take a day trip to Ephesus or is it better to go from Ankara to Izmir to Ephesus then Ephesus to Bodrum. I will be returning to Istanbul.
Thanks |

Ephesus is too far from Bodrum for a daytrip. Go to Ephesus first. If you can get a chep flight to Izmir you can then take a bus or rent a car to get you to Ephesus. From Ephesus you can catch a bus to Bodrum.

Make no mind I am sure your family in Ankara will arrange your visit to Efes/Ephesus and Bodrum.
My advice to your question: From Ankara there is a direct buses to Kusadasi. There are night and day busses. Night busses from Ankara departs at 24:00 O'clock and arrive next morning at 9:00 to Kusadasi. If you go by day bus you can see the Turkish panorama during your trip. (Varan, Ulusoy, Kamil Koc are best Bus companies) From Kusadasi there is always minubusus to Efes/Ephesus. It is only 30 Km's. Kusadasi and Selcuk are two towns around Efes. Kusadasi is on the seashore with a port. Selcuk is in the plain. No need to travel to Izmir and then to Kusadasi. From Kusadasi you can find a bus to Bodrum. From Bodrum the same companies have lines to Istanbul. Have a nice trip.

Sirvictor, excellent sugestion. I was in Ankara for a friend's wedding last July and I flew to Izmir (via Istanbul) and was going to Kusadasi since there are regular bus services from there and the distance is not that great. Due to the bombing in Kusadasi though, my friends suggested that I fly instead. I flew to Bodrum (again, via Istanbul) hoping to just to a day trip to Ephesus but it never happened since my friends arrived I just stayed in Bodrum with them.
My point is, Ankara to Izmir to Ephesus and finally to Bodrum makes perfect sense. You can even stop at Didyma and another site on the way to Bodrum if you rented a car.

Hi, I think the best route is Ankara - Selcuk (Ephesus) - Bodrum. You can find a bus to Bodrum from Selcuk and it takes 3.5 hours. You can easily fly to Istanbul from Bodrum.
Have fun in my favorite cities :)
