Oxford From bus station to The Old Bank Hotel
Posted: Tue March 28, 2006 08:58 PM UTC
Well well, Lis, you're late as usual

I'm leaving here(Copenhagen) on Thurs morning first thing and flying to heathrow I'm taking a bus to Oxford. From bus station I need to navigate myself to The Old Bank Hotel. Can anybody help me?

Should I take a cab? Or can I walk?? I won't have much luggage and enjoy walking..

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,

Lisa

Oxford is a small city so it should not be difficult to walk. And the Old Bank Hotel has an excellent website with a good map of Oxford! I'm not sure how a taxi would get there, because many of the main streets in between are for pedestrians and buses only.

Basically walk up George Street, turn right past the 'Martyrs Monument' into Cornmarket Street (pedestrianised) and, at Carfax Tower, turn left into High Street. If you are adventurous, a scenic route would be to walk through the Market.

Walking is the best option. The taxi cabs outside Gloucester Green, the bus station, may charge you around 5 pounds (depends on the taximeter) for a ride to your hotel. And you'll see that everybody walks with their luggage to their lodgings, so you'd probably have some company :)
Good luck!

Walk........you'll enjoy it and it will be easy to find your way (there are street-map signs around the city too). Will take about ten minutes to walk to the High Street. Might be raining though, so be prepared!

I agree with the others - you should be able to walk it in about 15 minutes and you'll get a better idea of the city that way. I've been doing a lot of walking from oxford station these days...

The area immediately around the station is a bit depressing (perfectly safe, just not that attractive). It gets (much) better very quickly.
