Pulau Flores Travel Forum

Hi,
can somebody tell me how to get to Maumere, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

I want to go there but did not have any information on the transportation. Would you mind telling me what kind of transportation that I need to take to get there and what are the options. My starting point will be Jakarta, Indonesia. Do you think I should fly to Denpasar, Bali or other city such as Kupang or Mataram? and then cross the island with small boat? Or probably anyone has better suggestion.

thanks for the info ofa. i'll answer your curiousity. well, at first it was supposed to be a trip that I need to arrange for my Oom (Oom is a ducth word for Uncle). He comes from Maumere but haven't been there for almost 16 years. He is quite old, 72 years old, and the he only aware of one type of transportation that is by sea (which took around 3 days). I am trying to find a shorter and faster way to get there.

apparently one of my partner at the office, who loves to dive, had visited the place. i found out from her (of course after I post this issue in VT), that there Merpati airlines flying directly from denpasar to maumere. i called merpati and they confirmed it.

during my research, both my partner and my Oom told me that Maumere is really beautiful, for diving and vacation. they say we can see the dolphins play in the ocean clearly each afternoon. they also say that it is pretty an isolated area, i love isolated area, far from office, bosses and carbondioxide.

so, i plan to visit the place as well, sometimes next year. this time, i would have better knowledge because my Oom would have used the plane.
