Temple of Abu Simbel Plain or bus?
Posted: Mon March 27, 2006 06:55 PM UTC
We are planning to take the train from CAI to ASW and then going to ABS. This will be in August, so it should be very hot. I found there are two ways, or plain or bus. Of course bus should be the cheapest.

I am looking for advise. Perhaps if we arrive by train we may loose the bus or the flight, or perhaps is too hot to go by bus, or perhaps train+bus we will get too tired to see monuments.

Hi,
The bus convoy leaves very early in the morning around 4.30am, arriving at Abu Simbel at about 8am. You have a couple of hours at the Temple (this is enough time for most people) and then you leave on the 10am convoy back. You can organise a tour in Aswan to stay overnight if you want to spend more time at the site.
Good Luck.

Hi

The bus is just fine - you go in the early hours and sleep until sunrise. Take some breakfast to eat on bus. Bus will be air conditioned and should be in a convoy and have an armed guard.

Abu S is fantastic - enjoy!

We took the plane and were delighted with the trip.

However, the reason we were happy was that we flew in one morning and out again the next day. This meant that we could see the site in the daytime without the (not very large admittedly) crowds that arrives with the bus convoy.

The bus convoy folk left around 10.30am - 11.00am and left the site almost deserted and very very peaceful.

The evening light show was a good hoot and we were glad we saw the temples and statues lit up at night.

We stayed overnight at the Nefertari Hotel. It is really only 100 yards from the temple, so you can also catch the site in the early morning when very few have arrived.

We had decided to stay so long as we heard such good reports of this site, and we wanted to see it at different times of the day and evening. Whatever way you decide to go, I am sure you will love the place. Don't miss it because it "seems" a tiring trip.
