| Monterosso al Mare | Satying in Monterosso al Mare? Posted: Sun March 26, 2006 12:34 PM UTC
My family and I are planning to stay in Monterosso al Mare for 2 weeks this summer. Is it "kid friendly" there? Do the beaches become extremely crowded? Will we bored if we are there for 2 weeks? Is it difficult to find a place to stay? Is it expensive? Can cars be rented there or is it easy to travel around by train?
Any info would be greatly apprciated. M.D. |

I love the Cinque Terre as much as any place on earth but I think 2 weeks is a very long time to be there. I think 3 or 4 days would be plenty and then go somewhere else. The beach is nice in Monterosso but I have only been in November and in the summer I think would be quite crowded. Trains travel to the Cinque Terre and between the towns, a car is not only not neccesary but expensive to park outside the cities. My "kid" was 16 when we took him and he was bored, he prefered the excitement of Florence and Rome.

I think that 2 weeks is too much. If your kid is grown up enough, you can hike, and this means that you could enjoy some extra days.
The beach in Monterosso is quite narrow and yes, it's very crowded expecially in the weekends. Anyway Cinque Terre are wonderful, visit them!

2 weeks only in mointerosso is too long (i live in genoa, so not far from monterosso, i know the places..) but if during these 2 weeks you plan to visit other places it's ok.
i can advice you to spend 3 days in Genoa to discover the city, the historical palaces, the biggest european historical center, and for ur kids the larger european acquarium (it's simply wonderful!!!) ... and then go to monterosso.... then visit all the 5 terre, go absolutely to Portovenere and Lerici and Tellero and visit la spezia museums. you can go around using trains without problems, and for Portovenere and Lerici and Tellero you can use boat service. if you need any suggestions write me, ok? also for hotels and restaurants in Genoa!!
